The event at the Finnish Science Centre in Vantaa brought together 120 industry experts, sales and marketing people as well as other key figures from the industry’s leading companies—such as ABB, Draka, Fagerhult, Glamox, Gycom, Nordic Aluminium, Osram, Philips and Schneider Electric—to hear the latest from the electrical industry.
Experts have calculated that at current consumption rates, global energy consumption in 20 years’ time will be more than one and a half times what it is today—even though over one quarter of the world’s population still lives without electricity. This means that electricity will be increasingly important and its share of total energy consumption will continue to rise, a trend that cannot be held back even on environmental grounds.
This makes it necessary to focus on quality and on more efficient use of electricity. Energy-saving goods and solutions are the best way for the electrical industry to maintain climate change within reasonable limits while new markets, products and solutions are being created.
Energy-efficient systems and devices will represent a growing part of all electrical installations as concern for comfort, safety and cost-effectiveness takes on increasing importance. Manufacturers are launching more ecologically sound products and doing their best to keep the rest of the industry informed of the latest developments. Electrical wholesalers do much the same, as our Blueway product range and our online service www.mukavamminsahkolla.fi clearly demonstrate. In industrial and commercial construction, our emphasis on energy efficiency has already been quite favorably received.
In his speech, Sonepar Finland’s and SLO’s Managing Director Tapio Jouhki, who is also the FEWF Chairman, noted: “Regardless of the way it is produced, electricity is the leading energy source. The electrical industry has already developed products that improve energy efficiency and solutions that can be used to moderate climate change. Now is the time for all of us in the business to establish even closer partnerships and make this information available to customers. And that’s what we at Sonepar are doing. The BlueWay-labeled items in our product range list their energy-saving features, as well as recycling opportunities, the packaging and raw materials used and their lifespan.”
