A winning reorganization
Bjørn Berntzen, branch manager, Otra, Sonepar Nordic
Three years ago; Otra Norge AS devised a strategy to achieve rapid growth in Oslo, the capital of Norway.

Improving operational efficiency Under the leadership of manager Bjørn Berntzen, the Oslo branch has experienced steady growth. His objectives were clear: reorganize, develop business and improve management capacity to optimize the daily input of every employee and roll out clear sales initiatives targeting both new and existing customers.
Development program In the fall of 2004, Bjørn Berntzen began working with Sonepar Nordic HR coordinator Vagn Haagensen. Together, they asked employees of the branch to embark on a continuous development process to achieve these objectives. Several work groups were formed to identify sources of improvement at branch level. Every source of improvement was thoroughly analyzed, and targeted actions were devised.
The results are promising! A year and a half later, the program has produced tangible results. Mr. Berntzen has recruited and trained new employees, and devised a more legible organizational structure when the continuous improvement process revealed that employee roles and responsibilities needed to be more clearly defined. “Now that the new structure is in place, communication between colleagues is much better, and that staff commitment is also greater. The branch has also increased e-business to 16 percent. I am happy with my team and ready to pursue further growth,” says Bjorn Berntzen.
