Sonepar simplifies its logistics and procurement related processes

Jacques Héricher, VP Key Accounts

Since January 1, 2004, Jacques Héricher has served as head of International Key Accounts. His role is to monitor these accounts for the Sonepar group, while harmonizing the various commercial and logistical operations of the group’s many procurement departments.

Sonepar: It appears that the globalization of this market spurred Sonepar into making certain strategic decisions…
Jacques Héricher: That’s correct. Among its clients, the Sonepar group counts several large multinational corporations. Increasingly, the latter are optimizing their cross-border procurements through global agreements with a single supplier. We’re talking about far more than cost savings, here: such agreements seek to shorten delivery times and ensure more efficient service, among other things. The whole e-procurement* phenomenon is part of this movement. The Sonepar group decided to set up an international committee in 1999 to determine to what extent we could respond to the trend. The committee led to the creation of the Sonepar International Key Accounts (SIKA) department. Today, the department has a staff of eight people, each one assigned to a particular region (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany and the Scandinavian countries).

Sonepar: What advantages does SIKA offer its clients?
J.H.: International key account clients are assigned a dedicated contact who ensures that synergies are exploited and that service levels are consistent within the Sonepar group. Thanks to our strong presence at the regional level and to the major investments made in logistical infrastructure – just think of the Cebeo distribution center in Mouscron (Belgium), the Technische Unie center in Alphen (Netherlands), Sonepar Deutschland in Ausbourg (Germany) – we are able to deliver merchandise or support (advice, maintenance, technical interventions, etc.) to virtually all of Europe within 24 hours.
We are also working to develop various tools that will allow our clients to centralize and streamline their own procurement process. For the client, this means less paperwork, faster supply delivery, more efficient inventory management and higher productivity.
In a nutshell, the efforts made by the Sonepar International Key Accounts department are benefiting clients. They have more time and resources to devote to their core business.
