Respect teams: a key of the success

Maria Mineo, Migliore Sonepar Sonepar Italia

Appointed in 2002, Purchasing and Stock Manager for Migliore Sonepar SpA, Maria Mineo started working in 1980 at this company.

Sonepar: Can you tell us about your career?
M.M.:
Immediately after the school, I started working as employee in the purchasing department of Migliore Spa, a well-known company operating in the market of the electrical material distribution of Palermo in Sicily for more than 40 years. I’ve always been working in this sector with care and passion, this I guess has allowed me to know and understand deeply the dynamics of purchasing. Up to the big jump, unexpectedly…

Sonepar: What is the most stimulating aspect of your new role?
M.M.:
Suddenly, my job changed completely. I was entering into totally uncharted waters. But from the outset, I had the trust and support of directors Pino and Ivan Migliore. In addition, my many years of experience and my active involvement in task forces that met regularly at Sonepar Italia helped me prepare quickly to take on this new role and its responsibilities.

Sonepar: Which is your approach to suppliers?
M.M.:
Most of the suppliers I daily deal with have a national agreement with Sonepar Italia: this fact makes the negotiations definitely more equal and enjoyable.

Sonepar: Inventory management falls under your leadership. How do you manage this aspect?
M.M.:
My golden rule is to never buy merchandise unless the supplier agrees to retrieve unsold stock. In order to reduce storage costs to a minimum, I encourage sales teams to take targeted action. Moreover, monthly control by Sonepar Italia at the national level encourages us to always do out best to reach the cost-cutting objective.

Sonepar: Which are in your opinion the most relevant aspects for success in your job?
M.M.:
The respect of the persons working in my team and in general a correct behaviour in relationships. Further, I believe that if a person knows precisely which are his/her own duties and field of action, then he/she is more motivated in the assumption of the responsibilities.
