In 2006 Datzer, a subsidiary of Sonepar Deutschland, is celebrating its 75th anniversary. On July 15th, Datzer organised a anniversary house fair. More than 60 suppliers supported the exhibition and many customers followed the invitation to this event. Beside the highlighted products and solutions of the top Sonepar suppliers, a raffle with many first-class prices made the customers stay the whole day. In the evening of the same day, the “official” anniversary party took place at a historical hall in Bad Kissingen. About 600 guests came to congratulate Jochen Datzer, Managing Director of the company, and joined a diversified and entertaining evening programme.
The company Datzer joined Sonepar in 2001. The business was founded in 1931 by August Datzer, the grandfather of today’s MD. In 1944 the building in which Datzer had built up its electrical wholesale business burned down. After the Second Word War August Datzer moved from Würzburg to Schweinfurt, where the company still is located, and started to rearrange the business. Of course, the company benefited from the reconstruction after the destruction of the War. In 1967, August Datzer died and his son Werner Datzer took over the company. In the seventies the company expanded its business continuously.
In 1982, Datzer inaugurated the first branch – 1985 the second branch in Ansbach followed. In the nineties Datzer opened another branch. The company expanded further on and benefited from the Fall of the Wall. In the year 2000 the company was sold to i-center, the electrical wholesale organisation of Siemens, then it has joined Sonepar in 2001. By the end of 2002, Werner Datzer resigned as Managing Director and his son Jochen Datzer took over his position. Business went well and in 2005 Datzer opened a new branch in Eastern Germany.
