Waregem, 14th October 2020 - Cebeo, market leader in the distribution of electrotechnical material, headquartered in Waregem, is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with the Intercommunale de Développement des Arrondissements de Tournai, d'Ath et des Communes Avoisinantes (IDETA) for the purchase of a plot of land on which to construct its new logistics centre. The 12-hectare plot is located in the industrial zone Tournai Ouest 3 on the outskirts of Tournai (Blandain). The construction of a new distribution centre (DC) is fully in line with Cebeo's ambition and growth strategy.
A study shows that the new site in Tournai, 20 kilometres from Mouscron, is the closest available building land suitable for Cebeo's project. The DC will thus remain close to the current DC in Mouscron, and is only half an hour from Cebeo's headquarters in Waregem.
The plot is located at the exits of the E403 and E42 motorways, in Blandain. Hence, motorway access could not be better. All freight traffic to and from the DC will only pass through the industrial zone. In the meantime, a noise study has also been carried out, and this is positive for the surrounding residential areas.
The building itself will be BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certified. The owner of the industrial zone, intermunicipal company IDETA, is also strongly committed to energy efficiency. IDETA is looking for partners in sustainability, which is also one of Cebeo's core values. The site on which Cebeo is building is surrounded by eight windmills and a future solar farm.
IDETA, which owns the plots and is in charge of managing Tournai Ouest 3, is particularly pleased with this partnership with Cebeo, which is fully in line with its mission of sustainable development in the Picardy region of Wallonia.
An innovative project supported by the City of Tournai
This major investment for Tournai and its region was made possible thanks to the support of the City and Mayor Paul-Olivier Delannois, who ensured that the project maintained employment in Wallonia in Picardy. The municipal authorities are delighted to welcome to the area a distribution centre using the latest innovations in the field, which will be a showcase for Cebeo. This new investment, launched by a group that is a leader in its sector, also confirms the attractiveness of the Tournai Ouest centre for investors and is excellent news for employment and the economic development of Wallonia in Picardy.
