Women Empowerment (WE) Program Wins Two GEMCAT Awards for Best Equal Opportunities Initiative
Sonepar Women Empowerment program has won two equal opportunities initiative prizes at the third edition of the awards held by GEMCAT, a cross-border project for the creation of high quality employment in Spain and Portugal.
- Dielectro Industrial and Hispanofil, two Sonepar brands, won awards in their regions of Galicia and Castilla y León
- The aim of Sonepar in Spain's Women Empowerment program is to promote the development of women in four strategic areas: supporting female talent, raising awareness of the work of outstanding women throughout history, promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among girls and young women, and continued progress in equality, diversity and inclusion.
Awarded to Sonepar brands Dielectro Industrial and Hispanofil at a ceremony held on 17th December last year, the GEMCAT prizes, which are organised jointly by the regions of Galicia, Castilla y León and Extremadura in Spain and Norte in Portugal, reward one initiative per region, making Sonepar the only winner for both regions.
The prizes reward 'measures that contribute to achieving equality of opportunity between women and men in all aspects of business', and are part of the GEMCAT project, co-financed by the INTERREG V – Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) cross-border cooperation program.
Since the program’s launch in June 2019, Sonepar 's brands have organised several career workshops for women at risk of social exclusion, as well as nine STEM workshops in schools, attended by more than 200 students, and have set in place seven equal opportunities plans.
