Sustainable Customer Journey

Global CO2 emissions from buildings, including embodied emissions from new construction, account for 40%, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Sonepar wants to leverage its leadership as an electrical distributor to help reduce the carbon footprint of its value chain.

We help our customers (electrical installers, industrial companies, commercial buildings, energy providers, OEMs and system integrators, and the public sector) make informed, sustainable choices by providing them relevant solutions, including Product Carbon, launched in 2026.

It marks a major step in Sonepar’s sustainable customer journey, giving customers the transparency they need to manage their climate commitments.

Product Carbon

Building on its first solution deployed in 2023, Sonepar launched Product Carbon, its new tool for measuring the carbon footprint of products.

The tool relies on manufacturer-reported data when available, or on estimates produced using an AI-powered CO₂ emissions modeling algorithm. The methodology is clearly identified for the products concerned and is already accessible on the Group’s webshops in Belgium and Finland.

The Group will soon take another step forward: in addition to carbon data, further environmental information will be requested from suppliers to provide customers with more accurate related indicators and enable them to integrate environmental criteria into their purchasing decisions.

Customer Impact Tracker

The Customer Impact Tracker dedicated to large customers is based on a similar principle than the Product Carbon tool.

It helps customers track the CO2 of purchased goods and services and provides customers with detailed reports.

The methodology is based on a LifeCycle assessment. Therefore, customers can reduce their impact by prioritizing product families with the lowest emissions.

What are scope 1, 2, 3 emissions?

Scope 1 emissions

Direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources a company owns or controls. Example: fuel burned in company vehicles or boilers.

Scope 2 emissions

Indirect emissions from the electricity, steam, heating or cooling a company buys.

Scope 3 emissions

All other indirect emissions across the value chain. Example: purchased goods, business travel, product use, and end of life.
