The future Nantes University Hospital is a monumental project: 230,000 m² of construction, four years of work, and hundreds of workers on site every day. It is the largest hospital construction project in Europe, and Sonepar is proud to play a key role in making it happen.
Precision Logistics for a Mega Project
To support an operation of this scale, Sonepar deployed an on-demand logistics system designed for large construction sites. Specialist teams conducted targeted studies, proposed tailored solutions, and identified technical and financial alternatives to meet the project’s unique needs.
Logistics on this site require precision. Deliveries must arrive exactly where and when they are needed, never too early, due to limited storage space, and never too late, which could slow progress. This goes far beyond simply supplying products.
A Finely Tuned Organization
Working closely with Eiffage Energie Systèmes, the team structured the site around 160 delivery points. To date, Sonepar has delivered:
- 220,000 terminal points (lighting, equipment, BAES, etc.)
- 500 distribution boards
- 1,500 km of cables
The Angers logistics warehouse team ensures continuous monitoring and prepares orders with near-surgical accuracy.
Sustainability at the Heart of Operations
Sonepar integrates strong CSR commitments into its logistics model:
- Reusable plastic bins to reduce packaging waste
- Cable reel recovery and reuse
- Sorted packaging for recycling
- Low-carbon delivery using electric vehicles, biogas trucks, and cargo bikes
“This organization, designed from the diagnostic phase onward, helps significantly reduce the construction site’s environmental footprint while simplifying logistics for field teams,” explains Fabienne Blot, Director of Processes and Solutions for the Tertiary Sector.
Inclusive partnerships also play a role. EsatCo in Avrillers delivers preassembled kits according to Eiffage Energie Systèmes’ specifications to ease daily operations for the workers, adding meaning to the project and reflecting our commitment to a more equitable working environment.
A Meaningful Partnership
With the Nantes University Hospital, Sonepar demonstrates its ability to support major projects through customized, high-performance logistics solutions. From site assessment to just-in-time delivery, from kitting to waste management, our ambition remains the same: to provide customers with reliable, flexible, and sustainable services that enhance operational performance.
